Romulan Genetics and the Romulan Strain

Romulan Genetics embarked on its journey in 2017 with a singular and heartfelt mission: to reintroduce the cherished Romulan strain to the dedicated cultivators and growers who yearned for its return. This mission was born from profound conversations with esteemed cannabis farmers who lamented the potential loss of Romulan to the annals of time. The Founder of Romulan Genetics is a cultivator and breeder named Jake. The core focus of Romulan Genetics remains constant with the production of both feminized Romulan seeds and regular Romulan seeds.

Romulan strain lineage is (Thai x Colombian x Mexican x Afghani) x Colombian. The Romulan strain is a potent, heavy indica dominant strain that smells like a blend of pine, skunk, and earthy funk. Pictured below are Romulan strain flowers grown from feminized Romulan seeds.

History of Romulan strain and Romulan Genetics

Cannabis cultivator, breeder and seed maker, Jake, came of age in California during the late 1970s and early 1980s. His father, a U.S. Navy Veteran, held prominent ties to the drug trade during the 1960s and 1970s but, more importantly, was an accomplished cannabis cultivator. Commencing in the late 1960s, Jake’s father forged a business alliance with a specific motorcycle club, which blossomed into his becoming a primary supplier of cannabis, cocaine, and LSD to several influential chapters of this club across California. This marked the inception of an informal network of growers and cannabis breeders, all of whom were military veterans with affiliations to motorcycle clubs spanning from California to British Columbia. They would convene during wilderness camping expeditions, bartering seeds, sharing stories, and conducting their business affairs with their families in tow.

Romulan’s origin story can be traced back to these gatherings, albeit under a markedly different name: Port Alberni Pinebud in Canada and Pine Mountain bud in California.

These various appellations all traced their roots to the same source—the collective efforts of veterans who grew cannabis during their camping sojourns. The journey began even earlier, with veterans returning from the Korean War, bringing back seeds from a remarkable strain known as Thai. These Korean Thai seeds were subsequently cultivated in the British Columbia and Northern California regions, albeit with significant difficulty due to unsuitable climatic conditions.

Jake’s father and other veterans entered the scene, introducing a Mexican sativa strain into the mix, followed later by a Colombian landrace, possibly Colombian Red, in the late 1970s. An Afghan Indica strain was also incorporated into the breeding process, although the results were not entirely satisfactory. Consequently, a backcross with the Colombian Red was performed, culminating in the desired outcome. This original set of F1 seed stock laid the foundation for P. Alberni Pinebud, P.A. Purple, and several other noteworthy strains that emerged during that era. Simultaneously, federal agencies intensified their crackdown on the activities of this group, necessitating their dispersion into more remote regions.

However, the transformation of this strain into Romulan was catalyzed by “Romulan Joe,” who introduced it to a broader audience. While most are familiar with this aspect of the story, the Romulan strain cultivated by us is a subtly distinct variation from the renowned Joe’s Romulan, more akin to Vic High’s Romulan cut. Ours stands as a pure, unadulterated Romulan strain, untouched by any crossbreeding.

Fast-forward to 2015, when our founder’s father passed away peacefully in his sleep. Subsequently, his close associates also departed, leaving Jake as the custodian of this plant he had been surrounded by throughout his life. Despite his limited cultivation experience, Jake, a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, felt a profound debt of gratitude to the men responsible for creating this strain.

The significance lay not only in his father’s involvement but in the collective efforts spanning decades to craft a strain ideally suited to their unique needs. Any veteran grappling with PTSD will attest to the indescribable nature of their inner turmoil. To Jake, Romulan, more than any other strain, offered a sense of equilibrium and mastery over his life. These emotions and experiences coalesced, propelling Jake to endeavor to freely distribute Romulan clones to anyone in search of them. He reached out to prominent breeders, growers, and licensed cannabis providers, all in pursuit of propagating Romulan once more.

Initially met with skepticism and uncertainty, Jake embarked on an unexpected journey. Doubters questioned the veracity of his claims, citing previous fantastical tales. They demanded proof and sought explanations. With composure and sincerity, Jake conveyed his personal narrative, gradually winning over skeptics who acknowledged that he possessed knowledge impossible to fabricate.

Thus, friendships were forged, partnerships formed, and Romulan Genetics blossomed into a fully-fledged cannabis breeding outfit making Romulan seeds and other Romulan crosses, too.

While Romulan Genetics may not have played a role in Romulan’s initial creation, they are resolute in with grim determination to ensure her enduring presence forever.
