About Montel Williams

Montel Williams earned his media celebrity status as an inspirational Emmy Award-winning television personality, whom Americans invited into their homes for more than 17 years. He is
a decorated former naval officer, inspirational speaker, author, entrepreneur, advocate for patients worldwide, and a passionate snowboarder. Williams is currently hosting the Lifetime show, Military Makeover with Montel. This unique series enlists designers, contractors, landscapers, and other home improvement professionals to transform the homes and lives of military families across the country. He also co-hosts The Balancing Act, a lifestyle show on Lifetime.

In 2017, Williams founded Lenitiv Scientific, LLC, a cannabis branding and marketing company. Lenitiv’s Inspire by Montel brand of products is currently available in Georgia, with plans to expand to several more states. Most recently, Williams partnered with Brothers Grimm to launch a wellness focused cannabis seed line, combining his advocacy for patient wellness with the expertise of a renowned cannabis genetics company. This collaboration underscores his commitment to providing patients and consumers with high-quality, wellness oriented cannabis options.

Williams is also celebrating the release of his ninth book, The Sailing of The Intrepid, a compelling addition to his repertoire as an author. The book showcases his storytelling prowess and further cements his role as a thought leader and creative force.

In August 2020, Williams launched his weekly podcast, Let’s Be Blunt with Montel, aimed at empowering listeners with with knowledge on a wide variety of topics that impact their lives and well-being, with a recurring focus on the cannabis space. He also hosts a bi-weekly podcast, Free Thinking, which covers wellness, inspirational stories, and social issues. A pioneer in cannabis advocacy, Williams became an early and vocal supporter of medical cannabis after being “arrested” on cannabis charges while traveling through an airport. At a time when patients were being criminalized for using cannabis to treat serious medical conditions like cancer and MS, Williams was one of the few high-profile voices on Capitol Hill fighting for patients’ rights.

Over the past two decades, he has worked to pass cannabis legislation in key states and has been a leading advocate for military veterans to access medical cannabis without the threat of losing their benefits. Williams hosted The Montel Williams Show, a nationally syndicated talk show distributed by CBS Paramount Television, for 17 years. Over the course of more than 3,500 episodes, he interviewed over 30,000 guests, focusing on key social issues involving ordinary people coping with extraordinary circumstances. He received a Daytime Emmy® Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host, and his show was nominated for Outstanding Talk Show two years in a row.

Williams began his professional career in the United States Marine Corps and was the first Black Marine selected to the Naval Academy Prep School, later graduating from the United States Naval Academy and being commissioned as a Naval Officer. He earned a degree in general engineering with a minor in international security affairs, as well as a degree from the Defense Language Institute in Russian and Mandarin Chinese. During his military service, Williams received two Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy Commendation Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals, and various other military awards and citations.

Williams serves on the Board of Directors for The Fisher House Foundation, The Anne Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases, and The Research and Recognition Project.
